2025 has been a great year for plums, pears, and apples on the property on which I live. It’s getting to be my favorite season where my daily knitting habit becomes seasonally appropriate, when the squash, pumpkin (a squash), root vegetables, and garlic abound at local farms, and where I am grateful to be in a place of natural abundance. Only a few more weeks of weekly work-trade for my veggies. This week we worked on harvesting cherry tomatoes and cutting garlic stems. Yum! I could smell garlic forever.

I took this image to document an unusual occurrence, because I love making note of synchronicities. The only other people on the beach besides me in this moment were chasing after their dog that galloped up to me (if dogs gallop), calling my only child’s name. This is not a common dog name, so I asked to be sure. I have never before heard anyone name a dog this name. I have been thinking a lot about my child, as she’s spent the better part of a month globe trotting “off grid” or at least “off mom’s grid,” which tends to put me in a state of anxiety because no matter how old an adult child becomes, a parent always carries that person in their heart 24/7. Thrilled for her to explore and journey all life has to offer, but it’s easy to have a vivid imagination.

On the left above is a small and on the right a large size of the 100% cotton Weekend Totes I am making to sell next spring. I’ve got the free Purl Soho pattern memorized and have enough of this great non-splitting cotton yarn to make bags in five different color combinations. Along with fingerless gloves, my goal is to earn enough to go toward funding a certificate with the Association for Nature and Forest Therapy guides (ANFT), something I was set to do in 2021, as I explain in August’s vlog.

Grateful to Susan G. Komen organization for the Share for Cures program to provide a small way I can pay my life forward.

Happenings this month to help me make it through in the financial struggle.

  1. I found a housemate after three months of advertising! Shared rent is always the best.
  2. I applied to Job #209 and #210 and have not yet received rejection notices! My goal is to continue my freelance work but find a PT job to supplement it to go towards my school loan payments under the new low-income loan structure and have enough to continue to pay for health insurance in the changes of the 2026 OBBB devastation before I reach Medicare age, should Medicare still be around.
  3. I applied directly to hospitals for financial aid for my post-cancer imaging and follow-up. If you are low-income, please know you can do this no matter your insurance or lack thereof.
  4. Family has been a great help, you know who you are. Forever grateful.
