A long-held dream has come to fruition in the month of roses. A space to host workshops and comfortably create that is separate from my primary work.
I spent a few weeks assembling furniture each night after work to transform the second room I used during the pandemic when my child in college and landed back home to attend virtual school.
This is the third home I’ve rented in the past six years. After the home we lived in was sold the month she went to college, I’d moved into a studio apartment in someone’s basement only to realize months later it was not going to accommodate her and me both working from computers all day.
What has made the knit studio possible now after years of sharing the space with housemates to make rent is receiving the gift of breathing room after my dear father’s passing. The remainder will go toward my school loans, but for this year in this moment, I am experiencing a transformation, manifesting old dreams, letting past traumas go.
I first came up with the name Waterwoman Knits 40 years ago and always dreamed of a space where people could share in the healing, meditative, creative joy I find in knitting. A place we could all learn together. This is a start for which I am deeply grateful.

Natasja Hornby’s Yara Shawl that I completed last year hangs on the wall.
A yarn bowl made by a young ceramic artist apprenticing her craft is on table.
LED wire knitted onto my grandmother’s wooden needles shines above, along with a clay sun nodding to my New Mexico childhood.
Here is a tour.

GOALS
1) To offer ongoing monthly beginning knitting classes in order to allow newbies to return for continued guidance and grow a circle of beginning knitters.
2) To offer 4-week sequence classes in Fall in order to give time to work step by step on a specific technique or garment.
3) To update my Ravelry page and start a community page in order to coordinate online as well as in-person Knit-a-Longs.
4) To foster creativity, offer novice design workshops for anyone interested in brainstorming design ideas with stitch dictionaries, pen and paper, needles and yarn. Designers welcome to share their expertise.
