September was Childhood Cancer Awareness month and October is Breast Cancer Awareness, and since my life includes both experiences, I am sharing the fundraiser I love with four knit designers’ patterns to enjoy.

Knit for the Girls is going to get me out of my knitting slump.

Cancer as an educator and motivator moved me to train for and complete a full 26.2 mile marathon, raise thousands of dollars, and shifted my view on being an advocate for self and others. I took the free set of courses to be a patient navigator offered by the Susan G. Komen Foundation, though I have no degree to help me obtain a job. I appreciate the role that patient navigators play in an often confounding healthcare system.

Now I’m counting on it to bring me out of a half year knitting slump, the longest for me in the past decade. I confess, I’m a knitter who lost her mojo. Casting on Melanie Berg’s Cherry Bloom is just what the knitting doctor ordered for inspiration. During Melanie’s own cancer journey, brain fog resulted in her developing a helpful way to stay on track called the Row Map. Even not being on chemo, my brain appreciates the help especially with lace.

My love of teaching never waned and I welcome anyone interested in beginning your knitting journey to contact me for support, answers, encouragement.

Here are a few images since my last post that includes the work of nature’s knitters and my second 8-quart batch of apple sauce from a yard tree that seemingly never stops giving.
